JUNE FUEL BLOG: OFFSEASON TRANSACTIONS - WHAT DO THEY ALL MEAN?
Even in the offseason, you’ll see teams in the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) post a variety of different press releases pertaining to their rosters. These transactions are part of procedures the league has in place to retain rights to and sign certain players. These offseason transactions can be pretty confusing to the average hockey fan, so we’re here to break down what all of It means.

Here at the Indy Fuel, we’ve been lucky enough to work with amazing organizations both in Indianapolis and beyond that are working to make our community and hockey a more inclusive and welcoming place. It’s important to celebrate and highlight these organizations making an impact in the LGBTQIA+ space all-year long, but in honor of Pride Month, we wanted to take a moment to highlight some of these organizations, what they do, how you can access their resources and what they’re doing to make a difference.

Kapelmaster is one of the hosts of The Latke Room, a funny and engaging podcast started in March of 2020 that brings guests of all different backgrounds into their “locker room” to talk about sports, entertainment, pop culture, dating, etc… with a unique Jewish twist. I’ve listened to The Latke Room and it’s fantastic. No matter your background, there’s something in it for everyone to enjoy.

Duncan Dalmao, who is in his third professional season as a coach, went from assistant coach of the 2021-22 Indy Fuel to their interim head coach last month. Since then, he’s led the Fuel to a 15-9-6 record.
​
Prior to his coaching career, Dalmao had 11 professional seasons under his belt split between North America and Europe. After playing three seasons in the OHL, Dalmao played in 391 ECHL games tallying 49 goals and 152 assists with the Birmingham Bulls, Pee Dee Pride Roanoke Express and Greenville Grrrowl. In 2001, he won the ECHL’s Defenseman of the Year award.

FUEL INSIDER: BEHIND THE SCENES OF A BUS ROAD TRIP

It might come as a surprise to some (or to absolutely noone) that hockey teams have a lot of equipment. When you multiply that amount of equipment by 20+ players and four members of hockey operations, it adds up to a lot that needs to safely travel from city to city for road games.

​Over the course of the 2021-22 season, the Fuel have traveled to eight different cities. Six of those cities are traveled to by bus. For longer road trips, the team takes a sleeper bus to provide extra comfort.

Damien Center is one of the organizations the Indy Fuel are partnering with for Hockey for Indy Night on Friday, February 25. Their impact and importance to the Indianapolis community is immeasurable. If you’ve never heard of them, allow us to introduce you –

The Indy Fuel embark on the first ever outdoor game in franchise history on Friday night. Playing the second game in the Toledo Walleye's Winterfest, the Fuel will play their third game of four this week at Fifth Third Field on New Year's Eve.

INDY OFFENSE EXPLODES FOR 6-2 WIN OVER IOWA

After defeating the Iowa Heartlanders 6-2 at home six days before, the Indy Fuel traveled to Iowa Saturday night for the teams’ eighth and final matchup of the 2021-22 season. Including back-to-back power play goals from Darien Craighead, the Fuel went on to once again emerge with a 6-2 victory.

INDY KICKS OFF WEEKEND WITH 4-3 OT WIN IN WHEELING

For the second time in a week, the Indy Fuel traveled to Wheeling, WV and left with the win. Just like Saturday, March 26 where Indy won 5-4 in overtime after Seamus Malone scored the game-winning goal, the Fuel came from behind Friday night to win it 4-3 after Malone once again scored in overtime.

INDY OFFENSE EXPLODES FOR 6-2 WIN OVER IOWA

Coming off a shutout win the night before, the Indy Fuel won their second game in a row against the Trois-Rivières Lions 4-3 on Sunday. Fuel goaltender Cale Morris continued his strong performance from the previous night, stopping 32 of the 35 shots that came his way.

GONE FISHING: INDY SHUTS OUT TOLEDO SUNDAY NIGHT

The Indy Fuel made their way to Toledo Sunday evening where they claimed a 3-0 victory, their first over the Walleye in the 2021-22 season. This win earned goaltender Michael Lackey his second shutout of the season and snapped the Fuel’s six-game losing streak.

FUEL CLIP THE WINGS FOR 4-3 WIN SUNDAY AFTERNOON
NAILED IT – INDY DEFEATS WHEELING 5-2

After defeating the Kalamazoo Wings at home on Saturday, the Indy Fuel went to Kalamazoo and won the second game of the back-to-back series 4-3. Indy’s Jordan Schneider scored the game-winning goal with just 0:36 left on the clock after the Fuel trailed 3-2 for most of the third period.

In the second half of home and home games against the Wheeling Nailers, the Fuel completed the series sweep with a 5-2 win Saturday night.

In their fourth matchup of the season, the Indy Fuel claimed victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones in a 4-0 shutout.

An electric third period and impeccable goaltending was the name of the game as the Indy Fuel got revenge for their home opener loss to Cincinnati last week by storming past the Cincinnati Cyclones to win 6-0 in Cincinnati’s 2021-22 home opener.
